At the heart of local life

First & Last Gift Shop

John O’ Groats Crafts is one of the most unique shops you will find in Scotland. Known as the ‘First and Last’ Gift Shop it is in keeping with the Jan de Groot and his seven sons legend.

The shop is positioned by the ferry pier and we are proud to be open all year (Mon-Fri 9-5pm and Sunday 12-5pm), with extended hours from May to September when the Orkney ferry is running.

We offer a fantastic selection of crafts and souvenirs from spoons, magnets, pens, pencils, thimbles, t-shirts, sweatshirts, ties, our extensive tea towel selection, books, maps, postcards and 40 different miniature whisky’s including the ‘Jan de Groot dram’.

Great service is in the family

Our Story

Our family have been involved in John O’Groats tourism since the 1950’s, starting with a stall that now proudly stands as the ‘First and Last’ Gift Shop.

A small, close-knit village, John O’Groats has a heritage which we are proud to be a part of. It’s important to us to keep the history and tradition of John O’Groats alive and we want you to feel the same sense of belonging.

Employing local staff and supporting local businesses through supplying their produce means a sense of place is embedded in everything we do.

John O’Groats may be the end of the road but you can expect a warm welcome; our small community looks after each other and as a visitor you will be greeted with open arms.
